Sunny days, sweeping the clouds away

For simplicity’s sake, I’ve limited my options to the obvious ones: Snuffleupagus, Bert & Ernie, Big Bird, The Count, Grover, Guy Smiley, Cookie Monster, Oscar the Grouch, Barkley the Dog, Elmo, Telly Monster, and The Yip Yips. (I’d have limited it to ten, but I just couldn’t cut either The Yip Yips or Guy Smiley. Some would argue they’re peripheral characters; I’d scoff at their lack of vision.) Now, I’d take any one of them as my roommate, as I loved them all dearly as a child. But since there can be only one, they need to be weeded out. Snuffleupagus was my first choice, initially, but clearly there are size issues there (Big Bird has a similar problem). Bert & Ernie really come as a set, and you can’t separate the two. The Count… well, he’d always be counting things, wouldn’t he? Can you just imagine? “How many kinds of ice cream do we have? Three! Three kinds of ice cream, ah ha ha ha ha!” Cookie Monster wouldn’t so much be counting foodstuffs, he’d be eating them. (And, as John pointed out, making a mess.) Oscar the Grouch would, I think, bring out my dark side, just as Telly would emphasize my nervous tendencies. Elmo is cute, sure. But his voice would really start to get on my nerves, I fear. That leaves Grover, Guy Smiley, Barkley the Dog, and the Yip Yips. And I… I just can’t narrow it down any further. No, really. I’ve given this a lot of thought (clearly). If I had to choose, if someone were forcing me, I’d choose Grover as a roommate and Barkley as a pet. It’s bending the rules a bit, sure, but hey! It’s Sesame Street! Anything goes!

Yay – a happy reminder of days gone by. The humans have aged! I agree – Grover would be a good roomie, even if he never shuts up.
What about the honkers? I think they’d be fun.
