Life’s great questions

At 8:15 this morning, I found myself at the dentist’s office. Q-tip in mouth, getting numbed up for another installment of the Great Dental Saga of Aught-Nine… well, it sure makes a person think about life’s great questions. And for me, one of the big ones has to be: why is there such bad music at the dentist’s office? Think about it. Everywhere you go, if you’re at a dentist’s office the music is uniformly bad. This is a universal human experience, I think. Also: why is it so expensive to go to the movies these days? I’m not talking about the fiscal assault you get once you’re through the doors and are thinking about purchasing foodstuffs. I’m talking about the purchase price of tickets. Yesterday afternoon, John and I took in the matinee showing of the new Harry Potter movie, to the tune of $18.25 (one adult, one student). Am I alone in thinking that $18.25 just to see a movie is a bit steep? And here’s another one: why do pencil erasers get all hardened and unusable over time? They stop erasing long before the pencil stops writing, I tell you. I wind up buying erasers separately, just to compensate for the solidified mass of pink synthetic rubber at the end of my pencil.

And how’s your Monday?
