On this day in history
May 31, 2009emily 3 Comments »Six years ago today, I walked out into a crowded 19th-century theatre, flanked by both of my parents. The room was mostly candle-lit. A hundred faces turned to look at me, and smiled. I smiled back… or at least I hope I did! I was nervous beyond all measure. Not because of what was about to happen, but because I don’t like being the center of attention. I got to the front of the theatre and my parents sat down. The rest? Is a bit of a blur, frankly. I remember reciting my vows and I remember that our guests laughed at all the appropriate moments. I don’t think anyone cried, though I could be mistaken. I remember John reading his vows, and I remember our good friends David and Mindi doing a brief reading. And then that was it! The deed was done. We walked back up the aisle (though, sadly, not to the “Muppets” theme song that I’d fought for) and out into the sunlit entry hall. We had a brief moment to ourselves before the photographer was on top of us, followed by the wedding party. Happy Anniversary, John. I bet you never thought you’d be the follow-up act to a herpes post. Life’s full of surprises!
