Is this thing on?

Check check… check check… Jerry, pull the high end out, I’m still getting some feedback here. Oh! Hi! I didn’t see you standing there. It’s been a whirlwind two weeks since I’ve been here, I tell you, and not a blog post in sight. We’ve been in the glorious midwest visiting family, friends, and all our favorite haunts. I’ve been thinking about home lately, and what home means to me. Now, I make no secret of the fact that we don’t like Florida. Even though we like certain things about our life here and even though our house is here, it’s not really home. It’s never felt like home should feel, though for the life of me I can’t pinpoint what that is, exactly. There’s something about Kansas that I just can’t quite put my finger on. Something about the land and the air and I don’t even know what else, frankly, but it runs in my blood and when I get back to Kansas I feel more content than anywhere else. I confess that when the plane takes off from Kansas City International with us onboard, tears stream down my face. Not just because of the personal connections we’re leaving behind, though there’s a healthy dose of that. But also because something is screaming inside me, wondering why I’m leaving an area that resonates with me and heading back to an area that just falls so short. Wherever you are, I hope it feels like home. For myself, while it’s good to be back at our house and among our pets and gardens, I just can’t wait to get back home.
